Everybody Gets a Wand

Imagine somebody handed you a magical wand. And with it, you can construct any type of building. AI today is that wand.

However, it’s not a perfect wand. I might say, “Craft me an entire house,” and it’ll do it. But that house is not going to come without issues. It might be vulnerable to plumbing problems. It might have nonsensical layouts & doors to nowhere. If you took my wand and gave it to a skilled contractor, they could build a much better house. That’s the software engineer today: someone who understands structure, systems, and how the pieces fit together.

Of course, we must assume that the wand is going to get better. When I say “build me a house” six months from now, it will have a much stronger ability to set up proper foundations and plumbing. Its ability to handle all the intricacies simultaneously will improve.

But then we’re off to skyscrapers and castles and cities. And that contractor who becomes diligent with the wand is always going to be able to do much more than I will. Everybody gets a wand, and that’s a good thing.
